With 40% of retail sales set to happen between Thanksgiving and Christmas these are some simple rules to go by as you are out and about.

Shop during daylight hours and always be aware of your surroundings.
Secure your home, set the alarm if you have one and lock your doors and windows while you are out shipping
Place any gifts in a secure place (like a trunk) and NOT in plain sight where they can’t be seen through a window
Make and leave a list of credit card numbers and leave it at home in case they are lost or stolen
Make shopping a ‘group’ activity and try to go with several people
Pay attention to how you carry your wallet or purse to prevent theft
BE CAREFUL WITH SOCIAL MEDIA; Checking in at different stores lets potential criminals know where you are and that you’re NOT at home.

Remember; while you are out and about getting ready for the holidays, the criminals are plotting and planning on how to take what you have.
